Living the Peruvian life....

So since last time we posted a blog we have done a lot but let us fill you in on some of the highlights ( and low lights mainly in the form of night buses!!)

If you visit Peru you will undoubtedly learn a lot about the Incas and the history surrounding this South American civilisation.

A great place to start ( as we did) is the Chan Chan ruins near to the pretty city of Trujillo. We visited the Sun temple and some well reserved ruins, some of which were only discovered in 1992. This was also the perfect setting for Mr Flower’s next album cover shot as you will see from the pics!!!

We next moved on to Lima to pick up some new recruits to our group. We explored Lima but can’t say it’s the most exciting place we have been. We stayed in the Bohemian district which was pretty cool and had some funky wall art but we were happy to move on from there to continue our adventure( not happy about the night bus but the less said about that the better!)

Paracas was our next beach town stop and it was a pretty little town where we took an early morning boat tour to the Ballestas island to see penguins and sea lions in their natural habitat which was super cool! We also saw the ‘candleabra‘ in the sand (pic attached) which has been there for 2000 years. The Mark was left by the Incas but due to its positioning and lack of rain in the region, it has never disappeared, crazy!!

Next we moved to a different terrain! Things got a lot more dessert like and extremely hot so the perfect conditions for sand boarding and buffeting! This was so much fun and if you ever get to try it you should!!! We stopped for lunch near a natural oasis in the dessert before heading for Nazca.

Nazca is fascinating and we visited some of the Nazca lines. There are over 250 lines all together all symbolising different things. These are again lines made by the Incas around 2000 years ago and because Nazca is the second driest place in the world after the Sahara, they never wash away! These were really cool and we discovered there is one called ‘the flower’ so..... we obviously had to buy keyrings of the Flower Nazca line!!!

Next we hit the city of Arequipa! This city is absolutely stunning and if you ever get the chance to visit then you should! It’s colonial buildings and Mediterranean feel was lovely and there’s lots of nice food to be eaten here!

From here we took an overnight trip to the Colca Canyon which is actually the deepest in the world! It was a 4am start but totally worth it to see the sun rise in the canyon with no other tourists around and to watch the Condor fly in the canyon with their 2.5m wing span!

From here we took another wonderful overnight bus to Cusco. For the past couple of weeks we have gradually been getting to higher altitudes to prepare us for our next big excursio, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

So we are now at 3,399m above sea level and touch wood we are both doing ok with the altitude!

Cusco is another amazing city worth visiting with so much to do. We have done more horseback riding here and have explored the city.

Tomorrow we head off to Ollantaytambo and start preparing for the Inca trail which we had our briefing for last night. We are super excited if not a little nervous but can’t wait to get started now! Matchu Picchu here we come!

love,

The Flowers xx
